What is a Drone?
A drone is normally a multi rotor device also known as a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle).
They come in many shapes and sizes and not all multi-rotor. Highly manoeuvrable and small in our field.
Not to be confused with fixed wing drones as used, for example, by the military.
Why might I need a Drone Service?
Roof Inspections, Building Inspections/Surveys, Animal Counts, Boundary checks for fencing integrity etc.
Planning permission can be helped along by overhead images. There are numerous uses for a Drone, for efficiency, safety and cost.
If you can think of it we can do it.
How does the cost compare with alternative methods?
Considerably cheaper and less of a risk to us humans, than for instance, a Cherry Picker for inspection.
Faster, safer and images available very quickly.
Every job is different so prices do vary, please contact me for a price.
How do you compete with the big companies?
I don't, as there is no point when they have bigger guns.
I cover a smaller scale market where Speed, Efficiency and Price are important, as well as quality results.
I cover the Domestic and Small Commercial Market.
I need my engineer to watch at the same time. Can he do that?
Yes, I have a second screen available if needed which can be tripod mounted (if notes need to be made)
or used hand held.
Can these drones fly in any weather?
No, the vast majority are not waterproof so most cannot fly in rain and/or high winds.
Why can they not fly in the rain?
They are electrically powered and a lot of components are susceptible to water damage.
There are a small number that can fly in light rain.
Can you fly indoors?
YES I can.
My drones are fitted with propeller guards whenever they are used in a situation where damage to your property might accidentally occur.
I fly a special drone for indoor work.
I use a very slow speed. Advantageous when taking stills and video.
This applies indoors and outdoors.
Are there any temperature restrictions to flying?
Yes, the majority have batteries that do not operate well in minus temperatures.
Our drones use smart heated batteries so can fly down to -10deg C.
Having said that we have to be careful of icing on the propellor blades.
Do you have to have a licence to fly a drone?
If you fly commercially the answer is yes. For anything else it depends on a number of factors.
I am licensed to fly commercially and carry £5,000,000.00 public liability insurance cover.
What quality of images and/or video can I expect to receive?
High Resolution Images and up to 4K(High Resolution) videos.
Available in a variety of formats.
If I book your services is there anything I will need to do to comply with any regulations?
If it is a residential area I may need to ask you to advise close proximity neighbours of the flight.
It may be necessary for me to brief neighbours of the situation to comply with safety requirements.
What other things do you need to do to be able to fly for me?
If it is in an airport/airfield restricted area of any description I may need to get permission to fly from
Air Traffic Control (ATC). We also notify the local police control room, on 101, that I am flying so they
don’t waste time sending a patrol car because someone has reported a drone. I also file a NOTAMS
(Notice to Airmen) report showing the date, location, time of the event etc. This helps advise anyone flying in the area.
I may also need to contact the local council for permission dependant on circumstances.
There is quite a lot of initial background admin to be completed before I can fly which I take care of.
Indoors has no legal restrictions so very straight forward.
How high do you fly?
That is a bit like asking how long is a piece of string, but I do have limitations.
I have to maintain Visual Line Of Sight (VLOS) with a max distance of 500mtr (546yds). Maximum height is 120m (400ft)
although most work does not take us anywhere near that height. Generally for most residences I will not need to fly any
higher than approx 70-90ft. Blocks of flats sometimes can be quite a bit more but not near our maximum ceiling.
Eg: 4 storey flats for instance about 79-90ft max is required to survey/inspect a roof dependant on type of roof.
Solar Panel Inspections, are they really necessary?
Solar panels require to be clean and undamaged to achieve the maximum efficiency.
It is recommended that they are inspected annually or bi-annually to make sure that all is well.
